The editors of Romaya Journal are the guardians of our journal's academic integrity and publication quality. This guide transparently outlines the roles, responsibilities, and ethical principles our editors must follow, as well as our editorial processes. We expect all our editors to adopt and apply the principles outlined in the
COPE (Committee on Publication Ethics) "Code of Conduct and Best Practice Guidelines for Journal Editors."
Core Responsibilities of Editors
- Publication Decisions: The editor is ultimately responsible for deciding which of the manuscripts submitted to the journal should be published. This decision must be based on the manuscript's originality, importance, methodological soundness, and relevance to the journal's aim and scope.
- Fair Play: Manuscripts shall be evaluated for their intellectual content without regard to the race, gender, sexual orientation, religious belief, ethnic origin, citizenship, or political philosophy of the authors.
- Confidentiality: Editors must not disclose any information about a submitted manuscript to anyone other than the corresponding author, reviewers, potential reviewers, and the publisher, as appropriate.
- Managing Conflicts of Interest:
- Editors cannot be involved in processes concerning their own work or the work of authors with whom they have close relationships (financial, institutional, personal).
- Editors are required to immediately notify the Editor-in-Chief and recuse themselves from their duties if they identify a potential conflict of interest with an assigned manuscript.
- Unpublished materials disclosed in a submitted manuscript must not be used in an editor's own research without the express written consent of the author.
The Editorial Workflow
- Initial Screening: Editors review assigned manuscripts against the journal's core criteria (aim, scope, plagiarism, formatting).
- Reviewer Assignment: For suitable manuscripts, at least two expert reviewers with no conflict of interest with the author are assigned.
- Decision Making: Based on the reviewer reports, the editor makes one of the following decisions: Acceptance, Minor Revision, Major Revision, or Rejection. The decision is communicated to the author with constructive and clear justifications.
Manuscript Submissions by Editors
In line with our transparency policy, a special procedure is applied when an editor submits their own manuscript. For detailed information, please refer to our
"Editorial and Peer Review Processes" page.
